Designing a holiday home on an empty plot in a prime area of Corfu for an English family — a house to enjoy in summer and let the rest of the year, on a gentle slope with breathtaking views of the sea and the Albanian mountains beyond the strait.

The brief
Make the most of sun orientation, generous outdoor living and the views. A swimming pool exposed to the sun yet sheltered from northerly winds; a centrally located kitchen open to light and the outdoors; an airy living room with commanding views and a fireplace; and bedrooms that favour quantity over size, each with an en-suite.
The design
Two separate buildings are linked by an entrance esplanade and a landscaped courtyard — creating an "adult" side with the master suite and living room, and a lower level for everyday living with kitchen, dining, terraces and pool. The basement creatively houses a games room, laundry and a children's dorm. A multi-level swimming pool follows the contour lines of the plot, stepping down the slope toward the sea.
